Nea Madytos is a village in the municipality of Volvi. It is located east of Thessaloniki, at the 65th kilometer of the old Thessaloniki–Kavala national road. Its population is 1,621 inhabitants according to the 2011 census. The settlement has a Health Center, Kindergarten, Primary School, Junior High School, High School, a Community Library, a market, and regular transportation to Thessaloniki and Asprovalta. Nea Madytos also includes workers’ housing as well as military residences.
In recent years, especially after the completion of the town plan expansion, there has been significant construction activity. The older name of Nea Madytos was Strologgos, and it was destroyed during the Greek Revolution of 1821 after the Battle of Egri Bujak, as the inhabitants had joined the uprising. The modern settlement was built by refugees who arrived in 1923 from the town of Madytos in Eastern Thrace, from which it takes its current name.
